Here's How Destiny 2's Exotic Masterworks Will Work

Although the big Destiny 2 news of late is the upcoming Warmind expansion, Bungie is also hard at work on a revamp of Exotic weapons. One part of this is adding Exotic Masterworks, which are advanced modifications that you can unlock for weapons. Recently, the studio revealed how these will work and how they differ from Legendary Masterworks.

In Bungie's weekly update, Senior Investment Designer Mark Uyeda explained that the Masterwork system is designed to give players more to work toward, especially considering that Exotics in Destiny 2 are fairly easy to get. As a result, Bungie will add quests and activities that must be completed to acquire the special perks.

Each Exotic weapon will have one Masterwork, and each Masterwork needs a Catalyst to begin its progression. Every Catalyst have its own activity you need to complete to unlock it, and once acquired, the item will immediately make the weapon generate orbs on double kills. After that, though, there are a series of bounties you must finish to unlock the Masterwork's final state. Many of these Masterworks will be available right when Season 3 begins, but some will be made available later on. In addition, some Masterworks will be harder to achieve than others.

In other news, Destiny 2's Season 3 goes live on May 8, alongside the big new Warmind DLC. The expansion includes a new story, co-op mode, and an overhaul of the Crucible's ranking system. You can read more about Warmind here.
