Sharknado Movie Series Is Ending, And It's Going Out With A Time-Travel Film

Sad news today about something that is Very Important: SyFy is bringing an end to its absurd shark-filled action movie series.

The Sharknado franchise will end after the sixth instalment, TV Line and Entertainment Weekly reported today. The franchise seems to be going on with a bang, at least in terms of how absurd the story will be. The untitled film will involve time travel, with main character Fin (Ian Ziering) fighting Nazis and dinosaurs, and also taking a ride on Noah's Ark.

The totally crazy synopsis reads: "All is lost, or is it? Fin unlocks the time-traveling power of the SHARKNADOS in order to save the world and resurrect his family. In his quest, Fin fights Nazis, dinosaurs, knights, and even takes a ride on Noah's Ark. This time, it's not how to stop the sharknados, it's when."

The first Sharknado movie premiered in 2013. New ones followed every year after, including Sharknado 2: The Second One (2014), Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! (2015), Sharknado 4: The 4th Awakens (2016), and Sharknado 5: Global Swarming (2017). That movie ended with the world coming to an end. So for the last movie, Fin is going back in time to try to stop the first Sharknado event that turned the world upside down.

Tara Reid and Cassie Scerbo are also confirmed to come back for the sixth movie, which doesn't have a title yet, but we imagine it'll be wonderfully absurd to keep with tradition. You can also expect a lot of celebrity cameos. Series director Anthony C. Ferrante is back to direct.

There have been Sharknado video games over the years, but there is no word as of yet if a new one is coming to tie into Sharknado 6. The straight-to-TV movie is apparently due out this summer.
