PUBG Adds Fortnite: Battle Royale-Like Limited-Time Game Modes

While Fortnite's free Battle Royale mode was clearly inspired by PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, one of the ways it sets itself apart is by offering limited-time game modes. These special events are only available for a few days and introduce a unique twist on the typical gameplay, like the ongoing Blitz mode that features shorter match times than usual. Now, PUBG is following suit and offering its own limited-time modes on PC.

In a post on the Steam forums, developer PUBG Corp. announced it is adding a new Event Mode to the popular battle royale game. Just as in Fortnite, PUBG's Event Mode will periodically introduce new types of matches that aren't typically available to play, and they'll only appear in the rotation for a limited time.

PUBG's first special Event is available this week, although it's fairly mundane, as the developer says it only recently implemented the system and needs to "test the basics" first. The mode allows up to eight players on a team and doubles the drop rate of the rifle.

"We know it's not a huge change from the public matches but as mentioned above, this is just to get things rolling," PUBG Corp. said. "The future of the Event Mode holds exciting things!"

The event is available to all PUBG players on PC; however, PUBG Corp. says the "first iteration" will be limited to the Erangel map in third-person perspective in order to "ensure effective matchmaking." You can read more details about the new Event Mode on Steam.
