Hawkeye And Ant-Man Are Missing In Action In Avengers: Infinity War Trailer

While the latest Avengers: Infinity War trailer was jam-packed with your favorite superheroes, there were two faces notably absent from the fight against Thanos. For one reason or another, both Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) were nowhere to be seen. In fact, a new poster doesn't even include the actors' names among the credits.

Following the events of Captain America: Civil War, both heroes were last seen imprisoned in the Raft, that nasty underwater jail, along with the rest of Cap's accomplices. However, the end of the film suggested that the first Avenger freed them to continue fighting the forces of evil. So where are they now?

For one character, at least, there seems to be an answer. During a visit to the set of Infinity War, ScreenRant asked the Russo brothers, who direct the next two Avengers films, about Hawkeye's whereabouts. "Hawkeye, coming out of Civil War, is in the same position that Cap and Falcon are at the end of that movie. And Ant-Man. And coming into this movie characters who were on Cap's side coming out of the Civil War," Joe Russo says. "Some made certain decisions and others made other decisions that led to different paths in them dealing with oversight in this movie in a different way. So Hawkeye's on his own journey in this movie." Anthony Russo adds, "He has a unique reaction to the Civil War situation that puts him in a special spot in this film."

Basically, it sounds as if Hawkeye isn't part of the battle to save the Earth. Instead, he has a separate plot. Logic might dictate that he would simply go home to his family. After all, he came out of "retirement" to play a role in Civil War and it was established in Avengers: Age of Ultron that he has a wife and kids living in constant fear that his superhero job might take him away forever.

Perhaps that's a storyline that there simply isn't time to address in Infinity War, though? Both this movie and Avengers 4 were shot back-to-back, meaning it's entirely possible Hawkeye's story may be addressed in the next film.

Ant-Man is a different story altogether. Ant-Man and the Wasp will be in theaters mere months after Avengers: Infinity War. Unless that movie is going to address the character's location, he'll have to appear in Infinity War in some fashion, if only to resolve Ant-Man's Civil War story.
