PS4's MLB The Show 18 Trailer Shows New Animations And This Legendary Player

Football season is over, but good news for sports fans is that this year's MLB season begins next month. A new MLB The Show game is on the way, MLB The Show 18 for PS4, and now Sony has released a new trailer that shows off some exciting moments and a new "Legend" player.

The trailer is a sizzle reel of sorts that shows cover star Aaron Judge and other famous MLB players making great catches, turning double plays, and crushing home runs. You will want to be sure to stay through until the end, as the trailer also shows off Babe Ruth doing his called-shot hand gesture from the 1932 World Series in Chicago.

Ruth is in MLB The Show 18 as a Legend player. The Great Bambino joins other Legend players appearing in previous games such as Jackie Robinson, Ted Williams, Nolan Ryan, Yogi Berra, Reggie Jackson, and Cal Ripken Jr.

In terms of what's new gameplay-wise in MLB The Show 18, developer Sony says it has completely re-written the tagging engine. Some players complained about inconsistency with this in previous games, and we're told not one piece of the old code is carrying forward to the new version, so it sounds like a fresh start--and hopefully for the better. Additionally, there are more than 1,000 new player animations, a "revamped" hitting engine that promises better, more realistic physics, along with more home run celebrations. Additionally, there will be dynamic crowd animations themed around players, such as Judge's Chambers. This is a section of 18 seats--known as the Judge's Chambers--where Yankees supporters dress up as judges to root for Judge.

For lots, lots more on MLB The Show 18, check out GameSpot's in-depth video preview here in which Sony shows and explains to us a lot of what's new in this year's game.

MLB The Show 18 launches for PS4 on March 27, although pre-ordering the game gets you early access beginning on March 23. The 2018's MLB season begins on March 29, though Spring Training kicks off later this month.

Another baseball game is coming this year in the form of RBI Baseball 18 for PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. A budget-priced, arcade-style baseball game developed by MLB itself, RBI Baseball 18 is adding much-requested features like Home Run Derby and Franchise modes. Another game, Super Mega Baseball 2, is due out this Spring. It is an unlicensed, arcade-style, over-the-top-and-wacky game that we are excited about.
