Horizon Zero Dawn Sells 7.6 Million Copies, Setting New PS4 Record
Horizon Zero Dawn has now sold an astonishing 7.6 million copies worldwide following its launch a year ago today. Sales at that level make the RPG from the creators of Killzone the "most successful new first-party franchise launch on PS4" to date, Sony said.
"We had huge ambition for Horizon Zero Dawn and as we approached the launch we knew people were excited, but to see sales of this volume is truly mind blowing," Guerrilla Games boss Hermen Hulst said in a statement.
Horizon Zero Dawn was released on February 28, 2017, so it's now exactly one year old. The RPG sold 2.6 million units sold in its first two weeks and 3.4 million as of June 2017. Of those, 915,000 were digital, but no new update on the physical/digital mix was provided today.
To celebrate the milestone, Guerrilla is giving away Horizon Zero Dawn-thened PS4 avatars for characters from the game, including Aloy. A PS4 theme featuring fan-made Photo Mode shots will also be available for free; both items will be available on March 1.
Additionally, for the entirety of March, the Modern Icons Aloy statue is 25 percent off from the PlayStation Gear store. All you have to do is enter the code "anniversary" at checkout.
And if you still haven't played the game itself, it is marked down nicely right now on the PlayStation Store. As part of the Critic's Choice sale, you can get the game for only $32.50. Go to the PlayStation Blog to see a full rundown of how Guerrilla is celebrating.
An expansion, The Frozen Wilds, was released in November 2017. You can get the game and the expansion Horizon Zero Dawn's Complete Edition.
