Zelda Action Game Hyrule Warriors Announced For Nintendo Switch, With Breath Of The Wild Costume

Today's surprise Direct presentation revealed a number of new titles in store for Nintendo Switch in the first half of 2018. Along with the newly revealed Switch port of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Nintendo has announced it is bringing another Wii U title, the Zelda hack-and-slash game Hyrule Warriors, to its hybrid console later this year.

Titled Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition, the re-release is slated to arrive on Switch sometime this spring. As its name implies, this version is the complete edition of the game. It comes with all of the maps, missions, characters, and DLC from both the original Wii U release and the expanded 3DS version, including Yuga and Ravio from A Link Between Worlds. It also introduces some new content in the form of Breath of the Wild-themed costumes for Link and Zelda.

Like the original game, Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition supports two-player local multiplayer on a single console. Whereas the Wii U version gave one player their own display on the Wii U GamePad while the other played on the television, Definitive Edition features a split-screen mode that allows two players to play together using a single Joy-Con controller each.

Hyrule Warriors is a Dynasty Warriors-style Zelda spin-off developed by Koei Tecmo. The game originally released for Wii U back in 2014 and was subsequently ported to 3DS with new content as Hyrule Warriors Legends. GameSpot awarded the original version an 8/10 in our Hyrule Warriors review. The game's spiritual successor, Fire Emblem Warriors, was released for Switch and New 3DS in October 2017.

Hyrule Warriors isn't the only high-profile Switch port Nintendo revealed today. In addition to Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, the cult DS classic The World Ends with You is coming to Switch this year, as is Dark Souls Remastered (which was also confirmed for PC, PS4 and Xbox One).
