Star Wars: Ewan McGregor Says He Would Be Happy To Play Obi-Wan Again

Ewan McGregor would be "happy" to play Obi-Wan Kenobi again, the actor said during the Golden Globes on Sunday following his win for Fargo. In a video uploaded by Hollywood news site Variety, McGregor responded to a question about coming back to play the Jedi master. He says an Obi-Wan spinoff isn't a real thing yet and he hasn't been asked to be a part of it.

"There's a lot of talk. I'd be happy to play him again but I don't know any more about it than you do," he said to a room of reporters. "There is no plan at the moment." He went on to say that he enjoyed the new Star Wars movie, The Last Jedi, saying it was "really, really beautiful."

Last month, a report claimed that production on the unannounced and unconfirmed Obi-Wan spinoff movie would begin in 2019, with Billy Elliot director Stephen Daldry directing the movie.

In 2016, McGregor stated that he believes there should be at least one movie that bridges the gap between Obi-Wan's story in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope. In addition, McGregor can be heard very briefly as Obi-Wan in 2015's The Force Awakens.

McGregor played Obi-Wan in the prequel trilogies. Alec Guiness, who portrayed the character in the original films, passed away in 2000.

The first confirmed character-specific Star Wars spinoff is this year's Han Solo film. A movie focusing on Boba Fett is also reportedly on the way.
