Bayonetta 2 On Nintendo Switch Will Have Amiibo Support

Platinum Games' critically acclaimed Wii U title, Bayonetta 2, is getting a second lease on life on the Nintendo Switch next month, and like most Nintendo-published games, it'll be compatible with the company's Amiibo figures. Now, Nintendo has shared the first details about what you'll be able to unlock using the toys.

On Nintendo's UK site, the company revealed that players will receive Nintendo-themed costumes and weapons in Bayonetta 2 by scanning a compatible Amiibo figure. The Wii U version likewise featured Nintendo costumes inspired by Metroid, Star Fox, and other franchises, which could be unlocked by playing through the game. Nintendo says you'll still be able to obtain these outfits in the Switch version through normal means, but scanning the Amiibo will unlock them instantly.

In addition to Amiibo support, Nintendo's UK site confirmed some new details about Bayonetta 2's Tag Climax multiplayer mode. While the mode was strictly limited to online play in the original Wii U release, players will be able to team up with a friend locally in the Switch version. However, each player will require their own system and copy of the game in order to play together.

Nintendo announced it is bringing both Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 to Switch during The Game Awards last month. The games will be released together in a bundle on February 16. Both titles earned critical acclaim when they first debuted; GameSpot awarded the latter a rare 10/10 in our Bayonetta 2 review. "Bayonetta 2's combat is so expertly constructed, and its presentation so joyously insane, that you'd have to try so very hard to get bored of it all," critic Mark Walton wrote.

Bayonetta 1 and 2 arrive ahead of the newest installment in the series, Bayonetta 3, which will likewise be exclusive to Switch. Nintendo hasn't announced release date for Bayonetta 3 yet, but the company did share a brief teaser trailer for the game, which you can watch here.
